It’s been a while since I toyed with nail art but, with Halloween tomorrow, it seemed like a perfect time to feature the little black cat faces that I sometimes sport on one or two nails. They’re fairly self explanatory and this particular effort is far from perfect, but hey, the neighbourhood cat population isn’t complete without the scrappy one with the wonky eye and mashed up ear.
First prep your nails with some kind of base colour. I went for a sheer glossy pink in the form of Clinique A Different Nail Enamel in 02 Sweet Tooth. Once the base colour has fully dried, paint a black half-moon onto the end of your nail. I used Barry M Nail Paint in Black and the brush in the bottle to create the semi-circle, slowly rotating the nail from side to side to get a smooth curve. Next, block in the ears by painting two tiny triangles with a nail art or old eyeliner brush.
When the black has dried, take a small dotting tool or opened kirby grip and dot white polish to create two little ovals for eyes. Once the white has dried, add a tiny dot of green (or blue/yellow/orange) into the centre of the oval. I used Rimmel Salon Pro 500 Peppermint. Allow to dry again before using a very small brush or dotting tool to paint a thin line of black straight down the middle of the eye to form the pupil.
Seal with a glossy topcoat (I’m currently using Seche Vite but the jury is still out) et voila, Halloween-ready kitten nails.
